This quilt is one of five in my abstract landscape series based on monthly seasonal changes. In the PA Susquehanna River Valley, we are blessed with year-round mountain views, and in the month of March, before the buds have color or begin to open, everything still seems a soft wintry grey from afar. If you stop for a closer look, however, you will see that all the colors of the spectrum are actually right there, just behind this branch or that ground cover. The top is constructed by machine sewing, making small sections and then joining those to make larger sections. There is no pre-plan, drawing or sketch. “March” is hand-quilted and embellished with beads, using commercially produced cotton from Japan and USA.
