This piece is VERY elegant and very dramatic! It is quite unusual within the Quilt world for two reasons: 1) It's the first horizontal selvage to selvage layout I've seen and 2) it has a beautiful clean white outline around the flowers.

This replicates the real-life finishing process of the Yuzen stenciling method still being done in Kyoto today. Participants on our tours to Japan try the Yuzen method first-hand and bring home their very own stenciled creation!

The auspicious hana guruma or flower cart (also translated as "flower wheel") is often used during festivals. Miniature versions are used as dolls' accessories in the celebration of Girls' Day or the Doll Festival (Hina Matsuri) on March 3. It has long been a popular motif in Japanese textile designs, signifying femininity, beauty and good fortune.
