Aoi's Quilt |
 |
|
35" w. x 43" ht.
Japanese and American commercial cottons; 1996. Machine pieced, quilted
by hand. This is a baby quilt made for
the child of some Japanese friend who named their daughter Aoi, which, when translated means "hollyhocks".
Although I looked and looked for fabric with hollyhocks on it, I could not find
even one. Instead I settled for a colorful garden variety of summer flowers on
hand-stenciled traditional children's yukata fabric.
In a private collection.
