About Quilters’ Express to Japan:

The company was set up in 1988 as a means to teach American quilters about Japanese culture through the vehicle of quilting. It is owned by Susan Ball Faeder, an American quilter whose love for Japanese art and culture goes back more than 30 years. Susan lived in Japan and speaks Japanese fluently. For the last 20 years she has been actively following the path of quiltmaking in Japan and offers lectures on Japanese textiles, on quiltmaking in Japan, and on her own work. She also offers classes in sashiko stitching and miniature kimonos.

VENDOR: We offer a wide range of gorgeous Japanese fabric, books about Japanese quilting and design, patterns relating to the kimono shape, sashiko supplies, and assorted “treasures” from Japan at select quilt shows during the year (see schedule below).

TOURS: QETJ was the FIRST to create a quilters’ tour to Japan back in 1989. Since then, there have been a total of 17 tours -- each one centered around a particular quilt event, but ALL to Japan, and ALL for quilters. If you would like to know more about our upcoming tours to Japan, please e-mail us.

FABRIC CLUB: Since 1997, through our specialty mail order club, “The Japanese Fabric Club,” we have mailed out 60 fabulous bundles of beautiful Japanese fabrics ...with no repeats. At 6 bundles per year--we are now celebrating our tenth anniversary of the JFC! It’s not the typical swatch club--so please click on FABRIC CLUB for more info.

CATALOG:
Please take a look at our newly revised catalog with online order form. You'll find fabric with your favorite symbols of Japan: Geishas, Kimonos, Cranes, Dragonflies- and even the Golden Pavilion of Kyoto!

GALLERY: We hope to revise this section in 2008. In the meantime, if you are interested in seeing Susan's quilt art, please send an email and we'll tell you where she is exhibiting and where you can see the work online.

SHOP: Our retail shop, "The Beckoning Cat," is located at 209 Market Street in charming Victorian "downtown" Lewisburg. The shop offers the same fabulous selection of Japanese fabrics as you've seen displayed in our booths since 1989. There is also an unusual assortment of gift items -- ALL with a Japanese flavor, of course!! We are (usually) open Thursdays and Fridays from 12-5 and Saturday's from 10-3 - or by appointment - but it's still best to call ahead if you are coming from afar: 570-523-1520.
